7200 Seconds

Welcome, everyone, to the 7200 Seconds page on the HKC Radio website. 7200 Seconds streams live Wednesday nights at 9 PM Eastern, 6 PM Pacific and Thursdays from the UK on eastward.

7200 Seconds is a show where you combine with music; that is, you can talk with me live on the stream and get to hear music while we are not talking. The ways you get in touch with me are via Instant Messaging thru MSN/Windows/Windows Live Messenger and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) and also using Skype. The music is stuff you just don't normally hear.

If you miss any show live, check out the Show Archive below. You can also subscribe to the 7200 Seconds Podcast for HKC Radio from this page. We are proud to have this available for all who are interested. Let me know what you think when I do not stream live by e-mailing me at 7200seconds@gmail.com.

Let's all keep in touch! Remember, 7200 Seconds is You and Music -- Together.

7200Seconds-Show61--12-27-06.mp3

Show #61 was the last show to stream live in 2006, and wouldn't you know it: that damn CPU freezes up the computer as I tried to begin on time and I had to restart it, with the end result that the show did not really start until 5 AFTER the hour! Overall, the show had no survey (well, it was the end of 2006 and I did not think of a good one this time), no Skype calls (apparently too much Christmas partying?) and a couple of thoughts from me about what I got for Christmas 2006. Among the highlights are a fair amount of Instant Messages from listeners including Venison in New Jersey, Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta (he IS a dedicated listener), Chris in Australia and others who will remain nameless, news about Samsung unveiling a Gigabit-Density Mobile DRAM, Micosoft trying to patent RSS, and me being just me with the music I play.

This show timed out to a bit under 7200 Seconds, but with that CPU freezing my computer, is that at all surprising? Enjoy the show anyway!

7200Seconds-Show62--1-3-07.mp3

Show #62 was the first show to stream live in 2007, and just like last year, that stupid CPU freezes up the computer and causes some of my opening words to get lost! Overall, the show had no survey (well, it was the beginning of 2007 and I really could not think of a decent one), Skype calls from Richard in upstate New York, Nick in Long Island (NOT upstate New York!), Chris in Australia and Venison with some interesting thoughts in New Jersey, and a few thoughts on how I went into the New Year. Among the highlights are a fair amount of Instant Messages from listeners including Chris in Australia, Nick in Long Island, Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta (he likes the latest Windows Live Messenger Beta and his screen name said something surprising: seventy 2 hundred seconds is a great show), Venison in New Jersey, Rich in upstate New York, and others who will remain nameless, news about a U.S. group suing Nokia, Samsung and Panasonic over Bluetooth; Apple, Google and Napster being sued over digital media stores, and me being just me with the music I play.

7200Seconds-Show63--1-10-07.mp3

Show #63 could be dubbed "The Skype Show" as a majority of the show was Skype calls! Overall, the show had no survey (but listen to this show for what will be a survey planned for Show #64), Skype calls from Matt in Canada (sorry we did not find out where as my Skype needed to be restarted, Dan in New Jersey (who needs to not catch me off-guard with that screen name!) and Nick in Long Island (need I say more?), and a few thoughts on Internet streaming, my disillusion with commercial radio and bad public testing of what my show setup should be. Among the highlights are a decent amount of Instant Messages from listeners including Lisa in Australia, Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta (who needs to stay warm!), Kerry in Rhode Island, Nick in Long Island, and others who will remain nameless, news about Verbatim taking USB storage to 12 GB, and me being just me with the music I play.

This show timed out to a little over 7200 Seconds, but not by much. With no show following it this time, do you really care? Go enjoy the show anyway!

7200Seconds-Show64--1-17-07.mp3

Show #64 was a show like many of the shows but did serve the purpose of showing why I cannot wait to stop using Winamp in my setup! Overall, the show had a survey, "Should 7200 Seconds stream at a higher bitrate in Ogg Vorbis?", a Skype call from Richard in Rochester, NY, and a few thoughts on "the need for Internet speed." Among the highlights are a fair amount of Instant Messages from listeners including Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta (who at least was not in the middle of any blizzard!), Nick in Long Island, Venison in New Jersey, Richard in Rochester, NY, and others who will remain nameless, news about new Sprint phones tapping into 2 networks, digital music sales continuing to increase worldwide, and me being just me with the music I play.

7200Seconds-Show65--1-24-07.mp3

Show #65 was a show that was a "Dry Throat Needing Plenty of Water" show and continued showing why I cannot wait to stop using Winamp in my damn setup! Overall, the show had no survey, a Skype call from Shaun in Massachusetts, and a few thoughts on doing an Internet stream with spending almost no money. Among the highlights are a decent amount of Instant Messages from listeners including Nick in Long Island, Goku from somewhere (but tried to send a file during the show), Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta (who enjoys using AIM 6.0), Nick in Long Island, and others who will remain nameless, news about IBM renewing its Microsoft Rivalry with new business web software, possible progress on the long-awaited 802.11n wireless front, and me being just me with the music I play.

7200Seconds-Show66--2-7-07.mp3

Show #66 was a show that marked the first one without any sign of Winamp being used! Overall, the show had a survey based on the new setup, "Should we have Skype conversations during the show without having them on the live stream?", a Skype call from Nick in Long Island, and a few thoughts from me on the new setup for the show. Overall, the show had no survey this time around, Skype calls from Rich in Rochester, New York, Shaun in Cape Code, Massachusetts, Vension in New Jersey (after 4 attempts!), and a few thoughts from me. 7200Seconds-Show78--6-20-07.mp3

Show #78 was a show that FINALLY had all servers connected but featured more than one nasty Internet burp! Overall, the show had no survey (for the umpteenth time!), no Skype calls (but James in Canada used Skype for text chat), and a thought or two from me, especially on the continuing issue of the threat of losing Internet Radio as we know it. Among the highlights are some Instant Messages from Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta, Venison in New Jersey and listeners who will remain nameless, news about MySpace launching an early version of its Messaging Service, Microsoft conceding to Google and States to change Vista Search, and me being just me with the music I play.

7200Seconds-Show79--6-27-07.mp3

Show #79 was a show that had no Internet burps but had me talking more than expected! Overall, the show had no survey (for the umpteenth time!), Skype calls from Venison in New Jersey (with a rant that HAD to be heard), Richard in Rochester, NY, and Chris in Australia, and a thought or two from me, especially on the continuing issue of the threat of losing Internet Radio as we know it. Among the highlights are a fair dose of Instant Messages from Bryan from Ontario in Canada, Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta, Venison in New Jersey, Chris in Australia and listeners who will remain nameless, news about Apple's iPhone facing tougher rivals than the iPod, and me being just me with the music I play.

7200Seconds-Show80--7-4-07.mp3

Show #80 was a show that had an Internet burp and had me talking more than expected; well, I streamed on the 4th of July in the United States! Overall, the show had no survey (sorry again!), no Skype calls (listeners apparently had BETTER things to do), and a thought or two from me, especially on the continuing issue of the threat of losing Internet Radio as we know it. Among the highlights are Instant Messages from Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta, and only a few listeners who will remain nameless, me talking about what has been and will be happening at the ACB Convention and a little about the NFB Convention, and me being just me with the music I play.

7200Seconds-Show81--7-14-07.mp3

Show #81 was a show that had an Internet burp and was a rescheduled stream on a Saturday, as the originally scheduled one had over a dozen Internet drops and was a terrible stream! Overall, the show had no survey (sorry once again!), a Skype call from Shaun in Massachusetts (that spread from Hour 1 well into Hour 2!), and a thought or two from me, especially on the continuing issue of the stay on the threat of losing Internet Radio as we know it. Among the highlights are Instant Messages from Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta, Venison in New Jersey, Kevin in Courtice, Ontario, Bryan in Fonthill, Ontarion and a few listeners who will remain nameless, me talking about what happened at the ACB and NFB Conventions, and me being just me with the music I play.

Show #82 was a show that was only streamed on TechnoFrag Radio but it was not my fault; the HKC Radio server would not let me connect! Rats! Overall, the show had no survey (sorry again, like a broken reconrd!), a Skype call from Shaun in Massachusetts (that spread from Hour 1 well into Hour 2!), and a thought or two from me, especially on the continuing issue of the stay on the threat of losing Internet Radio as we know it. Among the highlights are Instant Messages from Amanda in New York, Richard in Rochester, NY, and just a few listeners who will remain nameless, news about Microsoft offering Subscription Software in South Africa, talk and a little demo about a new piece of access technology called the Icon, and me being just me with the music I play.

Show #83 was a show that was only streamed again on TechnoFrag Radio but it was not my fault; the HKC Radio server still would not let me connect! Rats! Overall, the show had no survey (sorry again, like a broken record here!), no Skype calls, and a thought or two from me, especially on the continuing issue of the stay on the threat of losing Internet Radio as we know it. 7200Seconds-Show84--8-1-07.mp3

Show #84 was a show that was the first in a few shows back on TechnoFrag Radio and HKC Radio but the HKC server almost did not accept me back! Overall, the show had no survey (tiresome, isn't it?), no Skype calls, and a thought or two from me. Among the highlights are Instant Messages from Jordan from somewhere unknown, Kristy in Burnie, Tasmania, Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta, Nick in Long Island and a few listeners who will remain nameless, news about FCC meeting Google only halfway, Illegal Music Downloads up in the UK, down in the US, and me being just me with the music I play.

7200Seconds-Show95--11-28-07.mp3

Show #95 was a show that could be deemed the "Going Nuts on Skype" show. But was there a little more to it than that? Overall, the show had no survey (will it REALLY EVER come back?), Skype calls from Sarah in Las Vegas, NV, Nick in Long Island, NY, Chris from somewhere in Australia and Bryan from somewhere out there, and a thought or two from me, especially about life after Thanksgiving in the United States. Among the highlights are Instant Messages from Bryan from that somewhere out there, Sarah in Las Vegas, NV, Tiff from Santa Barbara, CA (Thanks for listening, Tiff!), Nick in Long Island, NY, Chris from somewhere in Australia and some listeners who will remain nameless, news from Morgan Webb and WebbAlert, and me being just me with the music I play.

7200Seconds-Show96--12-5-07.mp3

Show #96 was a show that was dedicated to those in the Northern Central section of the United States. It is way too cold there, so especially since I need something to keep my voice going, I had some hot cocoa during the show. So did it work? Overall, the show had no Skype calls and a thought or two from me, especially about life after Thanksgiving in the United States. Among the highlights are Instant Messages from Sarah in Las Vegas, NV, Rich in Rochester, Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta, Venison in New Jersey, Nick in Long Island, NY, Chris from somewhere in Australia and some listeners who will remain nameless, news from Morgan Webb and WebbAlert, a story about the XM Chairman begrudgingly accepting higher royalties, and me being just me with the music I play.

7200Seconds-Show97--12-12-07.mp3

Show #97 was a show that was dubbed "The Whispering Show." Why? Well, with my voice not at 100 percent, and me not wanting to lose my voice as I had done once since Show #96, I talked mostly at a whisper to save the voice. Anything wrong with that? Overall, the show had no Skype calls and a thought or two from me, especially about life after Thanksgiving in the United States. Among the highlights are Instant Messages from Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta, Sarah in Las Vegas, NV, Mark in Hamilton, MI and some listeners who will remain nameless, news from Morgan Webb and WebbAlert, and me being just me with the music I play.

7200Seconds-Show98--12-19-07.mp3

Show #98 was a show that was looking forward to Christmas. And the voice was back! But was it a good thing? Overall, the show had a Skype call from Mark in Hamilton, MI, and a thought or two from me, especially about what I will be looking forward to this Christmas. Among the highlights are Instant Messages from Sarah in Las Vegas, NV, Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta, Mark in Hamilton, MI, Venison in New Jersey, Chris in Australia, Rich in Rochester, NY, Nick in Long Island, and some listeners who will remain nameless, news from Morgan Webb and WebbAlert, and me being just me with the music I play.

7200Seconds-Show99--12-26-07.mp3

Show #99 was a show that was the last stream for 2007. So is the year ending on a good note, and is there plenty to look forward to in 2008? Well, maybe. Overall, the show had no Skype calls (what a way to end the year, right?), and a thought or two from me, especially about Christmas and American Football. Among the highlights are Instant Messages from Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta, Sarah in Las Vegas, NV, Mark in Hamilton, MI, Venison in New Jersey (who IM'ed me just as the last song in the show played!) and some listeners who will remain nameless, news from Morgan Webb and WebbAlert, and me being just me with the music I play.

7200Seconds-Show100--1-2-08.mp3

Show #100 was a show that was the first stream for 2008, and it could have been better or worse, depending on how you listen to it. Overall, the show had a Skype call from Nick in Long Island, and a thought or two from me, especially about New Year's Resolutions. Among the highlights are Instant Messages from Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta, Rich in Rochester, NY, Nick in Long Island, Chris in Australia and some listeners who will remain nameless, news from Morgan Webb and WebbAlert, as well as stories on the U.S. ranking poorly as the global privacy situation worsens and the Low-cost Laptop effort being sued in Nigeria for $20 million, and me being just me with the music I play.

7200Seconds-Show101--1-9-08.mp3

Show #101 was a show that started with no mic boost. That shows that the computer has a mind of its own! Overall, the show had a Skype call from Nick in Long Island (the vulture needs to watch his levels!), and a thought or two from me. Among the highlights are Instant Messages from Sarah in Las Vegas, NV (hope you get over that sore throat REAL soon!), Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta, Rich in Rochester, NY, Nick in Long Island, Venison in New Jersey and some listeners who will remain nameless, news from Morgan Webb and WebbAlert, as well as stories on the RIAA's piracy claims riling critics (thanks for the submission, Sarah in Las Vegas!), the latest on the browser-based Yahoo mp3 player, RealPlayer finally becoming accessible (thanks for discovering that, Adrian in Edmonton!), and me being just me with the music I play.

7200Seconds-Show111--3-19-08.mp3

Show #111 was a show that again streamed live only on HKC Radio. Why? Because the TFR servers were down again for upgrades, and wouldn't you know it, there was still a computer glitch! Overall, the show had no Skype calls (AGAIN!) and a thought or two from me, especially about inaccessible point-of-sale (POS) machines at various retailers. Among the highlights are Instant Messages from Sarah from Las Vegas, NV, Mark in Hamilton, MI, Venison in New Jersey, Candice is Western Michigan, and some listeners who will remain nameless, news from Morgan Webb and WebbAlert, as well as a story on a big decline seen in US consumer tech spending, the 'Spam King' pleading guilty (thanks as always for the submission, Sarah in Las Vegas!), and me being just me with the music I play.

7200Seconds-Show112--3-26-08.mp3

Show #112 was a show that once again streamed live only on HKC Radio. Yep, the TFR servers were still down for upgrades, and wouldn't you know it, there was still a computer glitch! Overall, the show had Skype calls from Bryan from somewhere (he never told me where!) and Nick G in Long Island in a very memorable short call, and a thought or two from me, especially about what strange things can happen before a live stream. Among the highlights are Instant Messages from Sarah from Las Vegas, NV, Bryan from somewhere, Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta, Nick in Long Island, Mark in Hamilton, MI, and some listeners who will remain nameless, news from Morgan Webb and WebbAlert, as well as a story on a UK group to compete with Joost in live streaming P2P TV, whether a boomerang thrown in space returns to its thrower (thanks as always for the submission, Sarah in Las Vegas!), and me being just me with the music I play.

Yep, the TFR servers were down again for upgrades, and wouldn't you know it, there was still a computer glitch! Overall, the show had Skype calls from Mark in Hamiliton, MI (who celebrated his birthday during the show!), and a thought or two from me, especially about what strange things can happen before a live stream. 7200Seconds-Show125--7-16-08.mp3

Show #125 was a show that should be the last from the 5-and-a-half-year-old desktop. Overall, the show had Skype calls from Rich in Rochester, NY (thanks for the off-stream call!), Chantel in Agawam, MA (great to talk with you by voice!), Nick G in Long Island (who HAD to promote his show live), and a thought or two from me, especially about some of my experience attending the American Council of the Blind Convention in Louisville. Among the highlights are Instant Messages from Nick in Long Island, Mark in Hamilton, MI, Chantel from Agawam, MA, Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta, Rich in Rochester, NY, Matt from somewhere in Canada, and some listeners who will remain nameless, news from Morgan Webb and WebbAlert, a story about Australia tweaking its code of conduct for Internet and cell phones, the first Firefox 3 patch fixing a security hole linked to Safari, a couple of submissions in these Show Notes (thanks to Sarah, who is back to contributing to the show and beginning to feel better!) and me being just me with the music I play.

7200Seconds-Show126--7-23-08.mp3

Show #126 was a show that would be the first on the brand-new custom-built desktop, but sadly, Skype was not to be involved for this show. Overall, the show had a thought or two from me, especially about some more of my experience attending the American Council of the Blind Convention in Louisville as well as building the new desktop. Among the highlights are Instant Messages from Rich in Rochester, NY, Bryan (my Auto DJ), Nick in Long Island, Venison in New Jersey (who had to battle a storm during the show), Adrian in Edmonton, Alberta, Chantel from Agawam, MA, Mark in Hamilton, MI, and some listeners who will remain nameless, news from Morgan Webb and WebbAlert, a story about a new wireless HD standard to compete with other proposed technologies, Apple suing clone maker Psystar (thanks to Sarah in Las Vegas for the submission!) and me being just me with the music I play.

Overall, the show had a thought or two from me, especially about some of the problems facing the LYNX public transportation service in the Orlando area. 7200Seconds-Show157--6-17-09.mp3

Show #157 was a show that was back on both TFR and HKC Radio. Was it worth being back on both streaming networks? Overall, there was a thought or two from me, especially on all going on with me, with the ACB Convention coming up very soon. Among the highlights are a Skype call from Mark in Hamilton, MI (it's about time!), Instant Messages from Mark in Hamilton, MI, Anna in Kissimmee, FL, Venison in New Jersey, and some listeners who will remain nameless, news from CNET News, thoughts on Windows 7 getting close to RTM, Mobile Speak support for the Samsung Jack; and me being just me with the music I play.

Overall, there was a thought or two from me, especially on all going on with me, with the ACB Convention drawing near. Among the highlights are a Skype call from Anna in Kissimmee, FL (who was actually in another part of my house during the show), Instant Messages from Mark in Hamilton, MI, Anna in Kissimmee, FL, Kristy in Australia, and some listeners who will remain nameless, news from CNET News, a story on Verizon fiddling with FiOS tiers, and bringing Compaq netbook to US; thoughts on Windows 7 getting closer to RTM; and me being just me with the music I play.

7200Seconds-Show161--7-29-09.mp3
