Last week was relatively slow here at Sonic Synergy, which naturally means we found plenty of things to talk about anyway! During our week in review, Kevin and Christina discuss their philosophy on open mics, where the goal is simple: lift people up, encourage musicians, and make room for everyone to shine. Then we take a trip back to the early 2000s, when Christina’s musical journey began with some good old rap rock. Love it or hate it, if you were around in the late ’90s and early 2000s, you weren’t escaping it! Resistance was futile, and the soundtrack was LOUD.

We also debuted our completed show promo, and we’re pretty darn proud of what we created. If it gives you a little laugh along the way, even better! Next up, we tackle the ever-growing mountain of Sonic Synergy episodes we’d love to turn into YouTube clips. How do we dig through all that audio and find the good stuff without losing our minds? Surely AI can help. Surely. What could possibly go wrong?

Our YouTube segment brings us a heartwarming example of what people can create with Suno, plus Wingman shares one of his favorite dog YouTubers. And yes, we admit it: we enjoy a little Cheddar and Cheeto around here, too. Don’t judge us. We’re professionals. Mostly.

Meanwhile, Christina’s musical journey takes a few unexpected turns, traveling from rap rock to rap, then to a rapper meeting a singer-songwriter, followed by a singer-songwriter meeting some rockers. Is there a map for this journey? No. Are there road signs? Also no. Does Christina insist it all connects somehow? Absolutely! At least inside her head, and honestly, that’s good enough for us.

So there you have it: open-mic philosophy, early 2000s nostalgia, a shiny new promo, AI plotting its way into our workflow, wholesome YouTube discoveries, and Christina’s musical taste taking the scenic route. Just another relatively quiet week at Sonic Synergy, where even when nothing much happens, somehow we still manage to connect all the dots. Well, most of them. The XLT might have to help us find the rest!

Who needs a regular Sunday show when your microphones have been kidnapped and buried in the backyard by your own studio dog? After Wingman, the furry menace of Time Dog Studio, buried ALL our microphones, Sunday’s Sonic Synergy broadcast went down with the equipment. It took a professional excavation company and a backhoe tearing up the entire backyard to recover our precious audio gear. Thankfully, the mics were found, Wingman’s reign of terror was temporarily contained, and we were finally able to return to the air Monday night with a special After Digital Domain Cuddle Puddle! Because apparently, even our microphones need a rescue operation before we can entertain the XLT.

We debuted a little piece of our new show promo, reminisced about our adventures in Dungeons & Dragons, and got downright goofy with some voice-changing plugins. Because apparently, our normal voices weren’t confusing enough.

Derek returned to blow our minds with another look at his Space Trace app, while Kevin decided Christina needed an educational deep dive into Blue Yeti 2 content. Did she need this much information? Absolutely not. Can she scrub the stink off? Also no. Some things just stay with you.

The amazing Jason Smith joined the XLT for some quality hangout time, and Christina took everyone on a musical Journey that may have gone Faithfully into a Full Circle situation. If you caught those references, congratulations! If not, don’t stop believin’ that you’ll figure it out.

It was an evening of games, gadgets, strange voices, musical adventures, and the kind of conversations that make you wonder what exactly is going on at Time Dog Studio. At least this time, we had microphones. We’re still not entirely sure we can say the same about the backyard.

Sonic Synergy: Where the voices are questionable, the technology is fascinating, the Blue Yeti 2 trauma is permanent, and the studio dog has apparently moved into the excavation business.

This week on Sonic Synergy, we survived our first official corporate gig! After a week of preparation, gear wrangling, rehearsing, second-guessing, and probably asking ourselves “Did we bring everything?” we finally hit the stage and lived to tell the tale. We talk about the ups, the downs, the unexpected moments, and why, despite everything, the gig was an overall success.

Then Derek gets his hands on a brand-new program and immediately does what Derek does best: breaks it. The funny part? Even when the program is breaking, it somehow manages to create some seriously interesting musical twists. We listen to a few of the results and decide that maybe breaking things is actually a feature.

Plus, we dig into a few XLT-submitted YouTube clips, share one of our favorite channels, and naturally wander into whatever other musical rabbit holes appear along the way.

This week on Sonic Synergy, our innocent little weekly recap took approximately 14 seconds to go completely off the rails. Somehow, we ended up talking about our newest acquisition: a QSC line array PA, because apparently owning sound equipment is no longer a hobby. It’s a lifestyle. A questionable lifestyle with cables.

And there’s more! Sonic Synergy the band has officially booked its FIRST CORPORATE GIG! Naturally, this means we celebrated for approximately five minutes before using the occasion as an excuse to discuss even more gear. Because nothing says “we have our lives together” like immediately wondering what else we need to buy.

From there, we wandered even deeper into the gear rabbit hole and started talking about what built-in accessibility could—and probably should—look like. Then we took a trip through Kevin’s musical archaeology, digging up some of his early demos and exposing the good, the bad, and the spectacularly ugly things that existed before those songs eventually became polished album tracks.

Our still-unnamed YouTube segment also returned with a creator who has discovered how to fight back against AI phone scammers. Spoiler alert: the scammers are not having a good day. The results are absolutely hilarious.

Then Kevin decided that Christina’s blood pressure was insufficiently tested and poked the bear by playing an article about a new accessible guitar. Apparently guitars have now discovered accessibility. Blind people, meanwhile, have apparently been sitting around for centuries waiting for the industry to invent the concept of putting their hands on a guitar.

The actual idea behind the accessibility feature? Pretty useful. The inspirational language surrounding it? Oh, buckle up.

What started as a gear conversation turned into a funny, frustrating, and ultimately heartfelt discussion about accessibility, inspiration, representation, and why it’s important to keep pushing back against the “look what this amazing blind person can do!” narrative—even when it feels like we keep having the same conversation and nothing changes.

So this week, Sonic Synergy brings you new gear, a corporate gig, questionable old demos, AI scammer revenge, accessibility arguments, one deliberately irritated drummer, and a reminder that sometimes the best way to make progress is to keep poking the bear.

This week on Sonic Synergy, we discovered a horrifying truth: we actually had NO audio from our recent gigs. So obviously, instead of panicking like responsible adults, we went digging through years of old audio.

And down the rabbit hole we went.

Along the way, we uncovered some forgotten gems, questionable recordings, and enough audio archaeology to make us wonder why we ever saved any of this stuff in the first place.

The XLT also brought their concert stories to the table, including Bob and Derek comparing their experiences at the SAME show… but in TWO DIFFERENT CITIES. Because apparently we’re now conducting highly scientific concert research.

We also kicked off a brand-new segment where we take a deeper dive into YouTube channels we enjoy, including channels submitted by the XLT. What could possibly go wrong when we start clicking around YouTube with absolutely no adult supervision?

Add the usual random tangents, unexpected discoveries, and a train of thought that has clearly escaped the tracks, and you’ve got another Sonic Synergy. Where we may not know where we’re going, but we’re pretty sure there’s going to be audio when we get there.

This week on Sonic Synergy, we begin exactly as you’d expect: with absolutely no plan and our usual brand of audio chaos. We check in with the XLT, somehow manage to discuss our gig-filled weekend, and celebrate Christina’s triumphant return to her rightful throne behind the drums after months of rebuilding her foot following her brush with death. She’s fine. Really. And she definitely hasn’t mentioned it approximately 47 times.

Then it’s time for a major scientific experiment: our first multi-track recording with the new Zoom L12. Against all odds, we appear to know what we’re doing, because the recordings actually sound pretty darn good. Naturally, this means we’ll probably buy more gear.

From there, things take a completely predictable detour into video game territory before we eventually stumble toward the finish line with a demo of Kevin’s shiny new microphone. Because apparently one more microphone was exactly what the studio needed.

So grab your headphones, settle in, and prepare yourself for another episode of Sonic Synergy, where the gear multiplies, the conversations wander, Christina returns to the kit, Kevin gets a new microphone, and somehow we’re still allowed to operate the studio.

This week on Sonic Synergy, we made the completely reasonable decision to consider going LIVE with a brand-new, completely untested mini mixer. Because what could possibly go wrong?

Well… firmware.

The mixer decided it needed a different computer-routing configuration, and since we had roughly twelve seconds to figure that out, we made the responsible decision to NOT unleash experimental technology upon an unsuspecting radio audience. Growth! Maturity! Good judgment! We barely recognized ourselves.

Then things got weird.

Somehow, Christina wound up on a Mike Roe track, which led us to the shocking discovery that Mike Roe may not actually be human. At least, not by conventional standards. Meanwhile, Kevin has decided that if Mike Roe can achieve superhuman status, so can he. His chosen path to super-humandom? Organizing lyrics . Yes. That’s where we’re at.

Kevin also brought along audio from his Friday gig that demonstrates his rapidly developing superpowers. Unfortunately, every superhero has a weakness.

Kevin’s weakness is apparently the Sonic Synergy control panel.

Because then…

HE BROKE THE SHOW.

Not metaphorically. Not emotionally. Not spiritually.

THE ACTUAL SHOW.

So we did what any highly trained professionals would do: we panicked, pushed buttons, questioned our life choices, and eventually unbroke the thing.

Once civilization was restored, we dug into more audio from our adventures during the week, checked out some of the latest projects being cooked up by members of the XLT, and explored some of Kevin’s latest coding experiments — because apparently we haven’t learned our lesson about letting Kevin near computers.

There are mixers. There is firmware. There are routing problems. There are superhumans. There are lyric files. There is coding. There is audio. There is technology. There is Kevin.

And, briefly…

There was no show.

But we fixed it.

Probably.

It’s another episode of Sonic Synergy, where the equipment is experimental, the plans are questionable, the technology is nervous, and somehow we’re still allowed to have microphones.

This week on Sonic Synergy, we attempt to be serious for approximately five minutes as we remember three major losses in the entertainment world. We played audio from all three, shared some thoughts, and generally tried to behave like responsible broadcasters.

Then Kevin happened.

We dive into some wonderfully unexpected audio featuring artists experimenting with 80s synths and electronic sounds. Because nothing says “musical surprise” quite like discovering someone you never expected suddenly sounding like they wandered into a vintage synthesizer showroom.

Kevin also unveiled some new show edits made with Derek’s Tone Trace Plugin, proving once again that we apparently have the technology to make our old audio even more interesting.

And then… THE KNOCK.

Kevin may have temporarily placed the entire show on hold music to answer a knock at the door. Was it an innocent visitor? A delivery? Someone looking for Kevin? NO. Christina has questions—and her leading theory is that this was simply the latest phase of Wingman’s ongoing attempt to seize control of Sonic Synergy.

The evidence is circumstantial. The conspiracy is compelling. Wingman remains suspiciously quiet.

Throw in plenty of input from the XLT, some questionable audio choices, unexpected musical discoveries, and our usual refusal to have a normal show, and you’ve got another episode of Sonic Synergy—where even answering the door can become part of the conspiracy

Apparently, having a plan is still not a requirement for Sonic Synergy.

This week’s show got rolling a little late because Kevin was once again unsupervised around buttons. Our opening song came from A7X, a band Christina is very fond of—but does their new song earn the Christina seal of approval? You’ll have to listen and find out.

We also dug into some audio we collected throughout the week and, because apparently we enjoy experimenting in public, ran the entire show through our new mixer. And somehow, it actually sounded really good!

So no plan, questionable button discipline, new gear, random audio, and a little XLT assistance to keep the wheels from completely falling off. Basically, another successful Sonic Synergy episode.

So… where have we been? We finally answered the question! Sort of. Mostly. There may still be some unanswered questions, but that’s never stopped us before.

This week on Sonic Synergy, we reveal what we’ve been up to, including the completely reasonable decision to buy another mixer because apparently mixers reproduce when left unattended. Kevin is actually pretty impressed with this one, which means we may have to clear out another corner of the studio.

Derek has been busy in the plugin laboratory, where sleep is apparently optional and good judgment is merely a suggestion. He returns with yet another creation and gives us a demo of Tone Trace. Will it change the world? Will it change your workflow? Will Derek build another plugin before we finish talking about this one? Only one of these questions is guaranteed to be answered.

This week on Sonic Synergy, we discover that there are somehow TOO MANY mashups of Octopus’s Garden… so naturally, Kevin’s solution is to make MORE. Because when the internet gives you enough octopus, you add more octopus.

Then we fire up the YouTube time machine and descend into the questionable depths of vintage text-to-speech creations, where we discover some truly magnificent uses of technology that absolutely did not need to exist. And just when we thought things couldn’t get stranger, we find the Led Zeppelin cover we never knew our lives were missing.

We also dive into stem splitting, because apparently we can now surgically remove individual pieces of songs and Kevin has been given access to this technology.

Plus, we take a trip down memory lane and hear the very first time Derek got to play drums on stage with Kevin. A little history, a little nostalgia, and probably a few questionable musical decisions.

This week on Sonic Synergy, we give our real opinion on the BT Speak—because apparently we’ve been holding back. We also listen to a video absolutely destroying Unison Audio’s Pro Chords pack (that’s not the real name, but you know what we mean), and suddenly discover that we are far from the only people with opinions about it.

We finally tell the full, completely ridiculous story of what actually happened to Christina’s leg, because apparently “I hurt my leg” wasn’t nearly enough information.

Then things get mildly terrifying as we hear two incredible Suno creations that prove what can happen when someone knows how to write a really good prompt. The future of music is here… and it may have already started plotting against us.

The Digital Domain takeover was supposed to be hosted by your favorite power duo, Bick and Nob… and that glorious plan lasted approximately 37 seconds before the whole thing went spectacularly off the rails. Thankfully, the real Bob was summoned to help us wrestle control of the Digital Domain time slot before the internet filed a formal complaint.

Kevin unveils his brand-new country hit, and—believe it or not—is seriously thinking about shopping it around. We also welcome a very special in-studio guest, Marquita, fresh off her debut sitting in with Sonic Synergy the Band, and we recap the whole adventure during our Week in Review.

Meanwhile, Kevin once again proves that while he knows every band… he also knows none of their names. Fortunately, Marquita swoops in to save the day before the conversation disappeared into the Bermuda Triangle of forgotten musicians.

We also check in with Monty for a special report from one of the national blindness conventions, where he unexpectedly crossed paths with one of our own XLT members. It’s a small world… especially when your listener tribe keeps showing up everywhere!

Happy Father’s Day from the barely-contained chaos of Time Dog Studio! We kick things off by tipping our hats (and turning up the speakers) with a little Pink Floyd in honor of Kevin’s dad before immediately steering the show into the nearest audio guardrail.

Kevin unveils his grand master plan for the Ultimate Keyboard Pedalboard of Infinite Expression™, because apparently playing one keyboard at a time just isn’t complicated enough. Then we discover that Kevin’s AI voice has an unexpected superpower—it sounds absolutely incredible singing in Italian… and pretty much every other language we throw at it. Why? We have no idea, but we’re not arguing with it.

We also take a moment to talk about another local radio station falling victim to the never-ending march of big-business radio, proving once again that corporate spreadsheets have terrible taste in broadcasting.

Meanwhile, Christina arrives armed with audio goodies! First up: some hilariously entertaining drum clips, followed by audio from Anika Nilles’ first performances behind the kit on the new Rush tour. Spoiler alert: she absolutely CRUSHES it, and we’re here for every note.

Not satisfied with one drum rabbit hole, we check out a brand-new Donner electronic drum kit before Kevin attempts the impossible: turning what may be the most gloriously confusing drum beat ever recorded into actual music. This week on Sonic Synergy, Christina arrived tired, slightly outnumbered, and immediately realized the rest of the crew had apparently replaced normal human behavior with a dangerous cocktail of 5 Hour Energy shots and Red Bull. The result? Absolute chaos. Conversations were flying in twelve directions at once, volume levels were questionable, and “herding cats” quickly became less of a metaphor and more of an official job description. It remains unclear whether Christina ever actually caught any of them or simply accepted her fate. We recap one of the busiest Saturdays in recent memory, the day started with us representing the church at our community resource fair, hanging out at the table, connecting with people, and trying to look organized in public; before speed-running life itself straight into the season’s first big band gig later that evening. Somewhere between greeting people, folding tables, loading gear, sound-checks, and trying to remember if anyone had eaten actual food, the crew survived the chaos and lived to talk about it! From his studio, XLT member Derek absolutely blew everyone away by demonstrating how he cleaned up some truly rough webcam microphone audio. The before-and-after transformation was so dramatic it felt less like audio engineering and more like wizardry. . Derek also talked about new wireless mic packs he’s testing, and a unique alternative PA setup , which naturally launched the room into full-on gear nerd mode!

Meanwhile, Kevin fired up the Harpejji in studio and showed off the wild variety of tones he can pull from it when connected to his computer. At several points it sounded like a futuristic synth orchestra, and at others like the soundtrack to a sci-fi movie nobody was emotionally prepared for. Add in the usual XLT randomness, side tangents nobody saw coming, and Christina trying to maintain some form of order while the room collectively behaved like caffeinated raccoons, and you’ve got another wonderfully unhinged episode of Sonic Synergy. Whether the cats were ever fully herded remains a mystery.

This week on Sonic Synergy, we celebrated Mother’s Day the only way we know how: with heartfelt appreciation, questionable transitions, and at least one conversation that probably made somebody’s mom say, “What are they talking about?” We tackled the unfair reputation of weed and wondered how something that makes people stare at snack cabinets for 45 minutes became public enemy number one.

Meanwhile, Kevin introduced the magical musical spaceship known as the Harpejji. We played audio from Kevin along with some incredibly accomplished Harpejji players, proving once and for all that the instrument is either the future of music or something aliens accidentally left behind during a layover.

Not to be outdone, Christina proudly unveiled her bass drum tower finger-drum-pad contraption like a mad scientist who finally got the lab equipment working without blowing a fuse. Somewhere between engineering genius and “hold my coffee, I’ve got an idea,” a new rhythm monster was born.

And just when you think things couldn’t get any stranger, Kevin creates deeply inspirational hold music based on information from one of our XLT members. Whether it belongs in a customer service line or an emotional documentary is still being debated.

On this episode of Sonic Synergy, we bravely tackle the serious issue of communities tearing each other down… before derailing into AI-generated chaos, questionable technology, and pasta confusion. We put a Suno beta application through its paces, while our XLT crew helps Wingman craft his latest masterpiece, “Hi Dawggie,” which may or may not become the anthem of the summer. Meanwhile, one XLT member’s computer begins making noises normally associated with either a rocket launch or an industrial-grade taser. We also check out an insanely advanced stem splitter app that makes us feel both technologically empowered and deeply unqualified. And in perhaps the most culturally important moment of the night, we attempt to explain “pasta in a bag” to one of our Italian XLT members… a conversation that nearly caused an international incident. It’s thoughtful, ridiculous, mildly educational, and held together with duct tape, drumsticks, and pure Sonic Synergy energy.

This week on Sonic Synergy, things got a little… elevated!

In our legendary 4-20 episode, Kevin dives headfirst into a mysterious old hard drive that apparently survived several computers, at least two musical eras, and possibly the fall of civilization itself. Hidden inside? Some of his VERY first session recordings, long-forgotten original demos, questionable production decisions, and enough vintage audio to make everyone ask, “Wait… THIS got recorded professionally?” Some tracks are surprisingly good. Others sound like they were recorded inside a microwave. Meanwhile, the crew celebrates 4/20 in true Sonic Synergy fashion — by getting high on great music, bad jokes, and dangerous levels of nostalgia.

Also making a triumphant return: studio dog and certified audio engineer Wingman, who has apparently been busy laying down tracks, supervising sessions, barking at invisible frequencies, and demanding payment entirely in treats. Proving once again that he may actually run the studio now! We share some of Wingman’s latest “recordings,” and honestly… they may be more emotionally honest than Kevin’s early demos!

This week we moved the show to Monday for a Digital cuddle puddle! We recognize the achievment of the moon travel currently happening. Kevin has been a beast in the studio recording his own song and a song for a film he was commissioned for. We reveal the quality of a $29 ear worn mic. You definatly want to hear this! For the first hour and change, we chat with Liam Erven, and talk about his rerelease of Super Liam, which dropped yesterday. Christina has never played it, so what better way to  introduce it to her than to put her on the spot on the show in front of our amazing 10 listener tribe. Pressure’s on. This weeks show was our normal all over the place conversation. So much so all I can say as a description is we talked about things and stuff and stuff and things! You will have to listen to truely understand what that means.

After some false starts we are able to get the show up and live! We demo a small 2 channel mixer from Rockville audio. We find some flaws in the zoom recorder. We talk about some kool things happening in mixer land. All this mixed in with our normal ADHD randomness!

Sonic Synergy took Sunday off, but we couldn't stay away to long so we decided to have another cuddle puddle snuggle after the Digital Domain on Monday. We started the show with a quick recognition of the passing of Three Doors Down's Brad Arnold. Then the regularly scheduled chaos ensued!
